RIB Section

WELCOME to the dedicated web page for RIB owners who are part of St Helier Yacht Club; one of the newest parts of the site.

Those of you who already own a RIB will know already how exhilarating it can be, and the myriad of places you can get to easily, both around Jersey and further afield, quickly and easily. Day trips on a RIB are an experience like no other and it is possible to get up close to some great sights in the other Islands and in France.

We hope that RIB owners who previously might not have been members of the St Helier Yacht Club will consider joining us. Our message is that RIBs are as much a part of the St Helier Yacht Club as more traditional boats, and you will be made very welcome.

We hope that via this webpage, St Helier Yacht Club members who already own RIBs will be able to find out more about them, trips you can take, courses which might interest you and information you might need. However, we also want to ask you to help us spread the message about St Helier Yacht Club membership to RIB owners who might not know about it, and what the St Helier Yacht Club can offer.

There is a great social life to be had as part of the Yacht Club, but we also want to promote the responsible side of boat ownership, and to that end, the St Helier Yacht Club RYA training centre, which is not only a certification centre, but also gives boat owners to the opportunity to improve their knowledge. It is as important to us to encourage responsible and safe boating by organising group outings and events, as it is to enjoy the social side of the Club.

Via this page, we also want to actively promote the Club and its activities with the local authorities such as Jersey Harbours, RYA, demonstrating a proactive and positive involvement in marine activities and safety.

We know that there are around 250 RIB owners we're aware of, and that you, our members, probably know many more! We would urge you to help us contact them, and put them in touch with a member of the Committee. Enquiries we have done reveal that everyone has different needs; some people are real experts and have great experience and knowledge to share, while others are 'new to the water' and would like advice and ideas on new routes and equipment they might need. Others have kindly offered training to those who might need it, which is a great boon for the Club.

As time progresses, we also hope that RIB owners might want to learn about other types of craft, such as motor boats, or perhaps try their hand at sailing. Because of the variety of people - and the boats they own - who make up St Helier Yacht Club, someone who is an expert is never far away.

We have plenty planned, and ideas so far include:

• Lectures on coastal navigation
• A supervised trip through the gutters
• MOB drills and general boat handling,
• VHF protocols TR reports
• Information and paper work for going to France,
• Introduction of a YC rib pennant
• A timed fishing trip - with a prize for the best catch and BBQ.

We hope that educationally, RIB members may also like to help out with youth training, or yacht races.
