Offshore Race 5: Normandy Tour

19th - 26 July

We are planning to spend our first night in the outer harbour at Dielette. For the slower boats the optimum time to leave St Helier is about 3 hours before H W which is at 13.27. For those with faster boats you may decide to leave later.

Here is a link to the Previs immigration form for Dielette:  https://www.digimap.gg/marine/marinas/dielette/preavis-immigration-maritime-dielette-aug2024/

This will need to be completed twice, once for arrival and the second for departure. You will see the box to tick on the form.  They request that the form should be filled out on the computer rather than by hand so that they can understand the form. Once completed you have to email both copies to portdielette@lecotentin.fr  This must be done at least 24 hours before travel preferably 48 hours.  If any of the crew have an E.U. passport they do not have to be included on the form.

Our advice is that you should also print out a copy of each and take them with you. When you arrive at Dielette you should go to the Bureau de Port and they will tick you off the list of boats which are arriving. The Dielette port office can be contacted on VHF channel 09 on arrival. Please note that Dielette, St Peter Port and Carteret are all part of Passeport Escales so if you are a member then let them know your number otherwise you will have to pay your marina fee.

We are planning on having some drinks on the pontoon on arrival and then it is down to each individual boat to make their own arrangements for supper.

On Sunday 20th we leave for Alderney. For the slower boats we suggest that you depart by 13.30 so that you take the north going tide and arrive in the Alderney Race before it turns against you. At Braye Harbour you pick up one of the yellow visitor moorings along the south side of the breakwater. If these are all taken there are additional buoys under the Battery on the opposite side of the harbour. The Harbour Master will be on Channel 74 and the water taxi Channel 73. This runs from 0800 to midnight and costs £3 per person each way. This should be paid for in cash. When you call up let them know the number on your buoy.  If you prefer you can take your rubber dub. When you get ashore go to the Harbour Office and you will be asked to complete a customs form and pay for your mooring. We cannot prebook particular buoys.

Please make your own arrangements for supper on the Sunday. On Monday there has been a request from some of you to play 9 holes of golf at Alderney Golf Club on Monday morning. If you are interested in this please let Jason know asap as they would like to have an idea of numbers. For those who have not been to Alderney before if you walk up the hill towards St Annes you will find a bike rental shop and it is quite fun to cycle around the Island. There will be a sponsored reception at Alderney Sailing Club at 18:00 on Monday.

On Tuesday 22nd we will be travelling to Guernsey and the best time to leave will be about 0800 before the tide starts to run south too fast in the Swinge. If you leave too late there can be overfalls in this area. So if any of your crew are staying ashore you can pick them up from the commercial quay, (where the water taxi runs from) as the water taxi will not start running until after 8.00.

When you arrive at St Peter Port we will be staying on the Swan Pontoons and you can walk ashore from here. Someone from the harbour office will probably come to show you where to berth. There will be a meal at GYC in the evening for those who have provided their menu choices to Jason. There will be complementary drink at the Club.

On the 23rd we will be travelling to Carteret. For those of you who have not been to Carteret before you will find the information here very helpful. https://www.digimap.gg/marine/marinas/carteret/

The sill opens at 15.55 BST but when it first opens it flows through very fast and it is best to wait for at least 15-20 minutes to allow it to settle. As we will be arriving from outside the E.U you will once again have to fill in the Preavis forms for arrival and departure. The link to download these forms are on the link above. I suggest that you fill in these forms before leaving Jersey and save them on your email as a Draft so you can send them off 24 hours before arrival or before leaving Jersey.

We will be organising a BBQ at Barneville-Carteret Y C in the evening. If any of the Rally boats would be able to help taking some of the provisions etc to Carteret this would be most appreciated.

On Wednesday 16th July at 18.00, the Commodore will present event pennants to all boats taking part, at the Club. The event organisers will give a briefing on the event details and answer any questions you may have.
