SHYC West Country Tour
Published 12:03 on 19 Apr 2021
In view of the continued uncertainty regarding the travel situation to France we have decided this year to go to the West Country instead of Concarneau. I know that this may seem rather premature to be making this call but having spoken to a number of marinas in Devon and Cornwall it is obvious that they will be very busy and some have already indicated that they will not be able to take us in July. If we do not make a decision now then we may not be able to go at all.
With this in mind the Sailing Committee have made the decision that we will be arranging a Tour of the West Country which has been very well received by a number of our members.
The provisional plan is for IRC Class 1 & 2 and Class 3 for anyone without an IRC certificate. We anticipate leaving Jersey late morning on Saturday 17th July to enjoy the first 6 hours of ebb tide taking us west.
Arrive in Falmouth [approx 130 nm] on Sunday 18th in daylight. Have 2 nights in Falmouth 18th and 19th in Falmouth Haven. Provisionally booked for 10-15 yachts.
July 20th race to Plymouth approx 36-40 miles depending on the course. Possibly a longer course for the faster yachts so we all arrive at approximately the same time. Two nights in Queen Annes Battery Marina. Booked for 10-15 yachts although they may be able to go up to 20.
July 22nd race from Plymouth to Dartmouth (approx. 30 miles). We are looking at the possibility of arranging a Dinner / Prize giving at a venue in Dartmouth. Two nights booked at Dart Harbour again for up to 15 yachts.
All of this is dependent on the Covid restrictions at the time and the requirements for isolating on our return will need to be considered. At present all of the West Country will be Green.
As I have indicated numbers will be limited and there has been a lot of interest expressed already so this will have to be on a first come basis so if you feel that you are genuinely interested please respond as soon as possible to email@example.com even if you have previously emailed.
