Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement 

St Helier Yacht Club is committed to safeguarding all children, young people and adults at risk taking part in its activities from abuse and harm and ensuring their wellbeing. St Helier Yacht Club recognises that the safety, welfare and needs of children, young people and adults at risk are paramount and that any person, irrespective of their age, disability, race, religion or belief, marital status, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or social status, has a right to protection from discrimination, victimisation and abuse.

For the purposes of this policy anyone under the age of 18 should be considered as a child.

St Helier Yacht Club and the Franchisee take all reasonable steps to ensure that, through safe recruitment, appropriate operating procedures, and training, it offers a safe and fun environment to everyone taking part in St Helier Yacht Club events and activities.

All members and staff of the Club and staff should be aware of the policy, follow the good practice guidelines and agree to abide by the Club Code of Conduct and the RYA Racing Charter contained in the Racing Rules of Sailing.

Club Welfare Officers

The Club Welfare Officer is David Jones who will act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the Club. David holds a current Safeguarding Level 3 qualification and a DBS certificate. Mobile: 07797 729647 email:drjonesjersey@gmail.com.

Deputy Welfare Officers: Concerns and reports may also be communicated to the Club Office Manager Jason Manning and the Club Office Administrator, Marie-Claire Lecuyer-Sutton, either in person at the Club Office or by phone on 01534 732229.

Concerns

Anyone who is concerned about a members welfare, either outside the sport or within the Club, should inform one of the Club Welfare Officers immediately, to be dealt with appropriately and in strict confidence. The Club Welfare Officers will follow the attached procedures, involving the support of appropriate external agencies as necessary (procedures contained in Part 3 of the SHYC Safeguarding Policy.

Photographs

The Club will seek written consent from parents/carers before taking photos or video of a child at an event or publishing such images. Parents and spectators should be prepared to identify themselves if requested and state their purpose for photography/filming. If the Club publishes images of children, no identifying information other than names will be included. Any concerns about inappropriate or intrusive photography or the inappropriate use of images should be reported to the Club Welfare Officers.

Any member of the Club or Franchisee failing to comply with the Safeguarding policy or any relevant Codes of Conduct may be subject to disciplinary action under Club Rules.
