Commodore's December Newsletter
Published 06:00 on 1 Dec 2024
We have entered the month of Christmas with all its festive fun. The decorations have been put up in the Club to get us all in the mood.
Christmas Menus
After a frustrating few weeks with the kitchen oven being out of service, we are delighted to let you know that the kitchen is now fully operational and the Chefs are looking forward to cooking some traditional Christmas roast dinners this month.
We have not just the one Christmas menu, but two! The traditional Christmas and Chalet Brunos Special Menu, which are now available and can be found on our website. Use these links to view the Christmas menu or the Chalet Bruno's menu.
There is a Christmas Bingo night and raffle on Wednesday 11th, which is always a sell-out success. Thanks to Pat and Colin Taylor for coordinating our very popular winter Bingo nights.
Festive Events on the Water
On Saturday 21st December there is a festive challenge for both motor and sailing boats and at the same time we are also running a festive fun race for sailing boats - the reverse of the Alex Bleasby Merry Christmas Race, where the younger your average age, the better!! Details of both are on our website here.
The ever popular Alex Bleasby Merry Christmas Race takes place on Monday the 9th December followed by lunch. If the weather is not suitable for sailing, the alternative course is sailed straight to the bar! Details and entry on our website here.
Festive Drinks and Carols
We are looking forward to welcoming Father Christmas to the Clubhouse on Sunday the 15th of December for our annual Festive Drinks and Carols event. Children will be meeting with Santa and members will be singing festive carols and enjoying live music. This popular event is now fully booked.
The Cruising logs
At last years dinner I floated the idea of presenting a trophy for the best log, as we had members who were doing substantial cruises during the year. We went out to the membership and received 5 fantastic logs, which we, the Flag Officers, spent many a happy hour reading. We did choose a winner, it was unanimous, and that is Don Hughes Sovereigns Baltic Adventure, A Solo Challenge, which won the Julietta Trophy. All fabulous entries, thank you everyone for entering. The logs have been published on our website here.
St Helier VTS Presentation
A duty watch officer from St Helier VTS will be delivering a presentation to members on the subject of port safety and the safe navigation within the VTS area. A reminder of the significance of the IALA signal lights in St Helier harbour, and an introduction to the Ports general directions currently in force.
This talk will be at 19:00 on Tuesday the 22nd of January and further information will follow soon.
St Helier VTS have requested that boat owners view the video here.
Annual Dinner & Dance
Thanks to Susie and her social committee for organising another fabulous Annual Dinner & Dance. This event was again held at the St Brelades Bay Hotel which did a brilliant job of looking after us all and served a delicious dinner. The Jessica Chays band did a wonderful job entertaining us throughout the evening with a packed dance floor. Congratulations to all the 2024 racing skippers and crews who collected their trophies. View the online photo album here.
I wish you all a very merry Christmas.
