SHYC FEBRUARY Sailing Update

Dear Skippers,

Sail measurement. We inadvertently gave out the incorrect email address for James Kent in last months update so apologies to anyone who tried unsuccessfully for to contact James for sail measurement. His correct email address is:-  James.kent62@gmail.com.  We will not be holding an evening of sail measurement at Les Quennevais School as we have in the past owing to COVID restrictions but we do have alternative premises available for individual measuring.

Sailing programme amendment. Owing to the current restrictions to team sports, which are expected to continue until month end at least, the first race of the Spring Series has been postponed and will be run on 7th March with Spring 2 run immediately after, back-to-back. Official notification is on the clubs website notice board.

IRC Certificates for 2021. These are available directly via the IRC portal (ircrating.org) and the published turnaround time is 21 days unless you pay an extra fee to have it expedited. The club is still facilitating the club scheme (contact James Kent) which will save a modest amount although the process can be considerably protracted as applications have to be submitted en-bloc.  If you want a revised rating or new certificate for the Spring Series, it will need to be submitted to the club by 19th March ( ie before the END of the series). Until that point, the 2020 rating can be used but the result will be regarded as provisional.

World Sailing regulations relating to AIS. Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey. We have already published our decision regarding AIS requirements for 2021, ie that it will only be required for the Biscay Race to Concarneau. Our work regarding the structural inspections is ongoing as this rule does not come into force until 2022. We will keep you posted.

Virtual Regatta of team racing against Guernsey Yacht Club. Held over last weekend and sponsored by The Evolution Group with our own Kevin Coxshall overall winner. As far as the team racing.... Jersey were second  :-( but the comeback is already being rigorously planned and pursued.

Americas Cup Final - Racing will start on Saturday 6th March and it is hoped we will be able to have viewings  on the big screen in the club house if  COVID restrictions allow. Dependant on results, the final may continue until 21st March, the last day of our Spring Series. To have the climax of two such auspicious events on the same day is just remarkable......SHYC, the club that just keeps on giving.

The Prada Cup (the challenger selection series- formerly the Louis Vuitton Cup) starts this Friday between Ineos Team UK and Prada Pirelli and  will likely available for live streaming on You Tube if not live, recorded footage will be available on demand, again via You Tube. A day in the life....... is the title of a talk and Q&A given by Tom Cheney of Ineos Team UK. It will be a zoom meeting hosted by Royal Western Yacht Club on Wednesday 10th February at 19-00hrs.
