Heres wishing you a very Happy New Year.
Festive Drinks & Carols
Francis Murton was on keyboard, Fiona on saxophone, and the singers from Victoria College gave us a real treat for our afternoon Festive Drinks and Carols. There was a combination of sea shanties and carols giving a great atmosphere in the Club. Thank you to all the performers, to Susie and the Social Committee, for making the afternoon such a success and great fun for both children and adults alike. We were keeping watch for the approach of Santa Claus using AIS and he duly arrived on board the RNLI all-weather lifeboat George Sullivan to great excitement of all the children, and I have to say adults too. It was such an impressive sight. Santa Claus came up to the Club to give out his presents to the children.
Unfortunately, the Christmas race and the challenge succumbed to the repeated pattern of unfavourable weather. But we had the traditional Christmas and Chalet Brunos Special Menus to keep us in good festive cheer, a big thank you to Bruno, Stephen and the staff for keeping us fed and watered.
St Helier VTS Presentation
A duty watch officer from St Helier VTS will be delivering a presentation to members on the subject of port safety and the safe navigation within the VTS area. A reminder of the significance of the IALA signal lights in St Helier harbour, and an introduction to the Ports general directions currently in force. A special light supper will be available after this talk. Click here for more information.
British Keelboat League Sponsorship
During August and September, 5 Jersey youth sailors had the opportunity to compete in the British Keelboat League, first in the David Haw memorial and then in the British keelboat final. They were able to achieve this through generous sponsorship from St. Helier Yacht Club as well as being awarded a wild card entry into the final in recognition of the difficulties of living in Jersey and competing in the UK. Read their race report here.
