NOTICE TO SKIPPERS/OWNERS CONCERNING SHYC OFFSHORE RACES AND WORLD SAILING OSR 3.29.13 AIS

In order to give skippers/owners sufficient time to fit an AIS transponder as required by OSR 3.29.13, this requirement was deferred in 2021 for all SHYC Offshore category 3 races other than the West Country tour.

Following discussions with the technical teams at the RYA and RORC, they are of the view that races in our Offshore Series are correctly rated as category 3.

The safety benefits afforded by AIS are well documented and given these and in the light of feedback from the sailing authorities, participating yachts in the SHYC Offshore Series and any other races designated category 3 must have an AIS transponder fitted to comply with OSR 3.29.13.

The Notice of Race for applicable races shall include this requirement as well as stating that AIS Transponders must be switched on and capable of transmitting and receiving during races.
