Inter Parish Race - 22nd May.
This race is fast approaching and although we have had sufficient verbal commitment to result in representation of all the parishes, it would be re-assuring to see official entries. We are looking for a boat to represent St. Peter, the only parish, currently that might be left out of the fun!
The race is generously sponsored by JE and is a great opportunity to introduce new people to sailing. If anyone is short of crew, might I suggest you browse through the crew available section of the club website. The race is followed by prizegiving and (free) meal so it would be great to have a well supported race and full clubhouse in the evening to show our appreciation to the sponsors.
Silver Jubilee Race and Evacuation Trophy - 17th 19th June.
This special event is going to be even more special this year as we will be joined in St. Malo by Irene Probstein who is believed to be the only evacuee of the original operation who is still alive. She will be travelling from USA with her family specially for our event.
This is likely to be a very popular event as we will, as in previous years be joined by the Evacuation Rally participants. Unfortunately, space in the Bassin Vaubain be limited and we have been able to secure only 150m of quayside against which to moor (although rafting will be allowed). If you want to be in the midst of the action (including a pontoon party and lunch at La Trinquette) early booking will be essential and I encourage you to monitor the club website where the entry documents will be available in the next few days. Should you not enter before 1st June you may have to remain in the St. Servan marina should you decide to enter the race after that date. Berths in the Bassin Vaubain will likely NOT be available without pre-booking.
Rock or Reef?
Although I have been sailing around here for about 15 years, here's something that was news to me… Oyster Rock isn't actually an isolated danger; the beacon sits in the middle of a reef. See the image at the top of this post to see what it looks like at low water from the West.
Finally As part of our effort to make sailing in these waters as enjoyable and safe as possible, a periodic reminder to make a check of your safety equipment, and procedures with perhaps time taken to conduct drills of potentially critical procedures. The club regularly runs an excellent VHF Radio course, a practical way to revise your knowledge and processes. Do contact the club office to check for course dates and availability.
