It is looking as if June will be a very busy and exciting month for the Club. Not only do we have the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations but also the first St Malo Evacuation Race / Rally and the first Inter Island Race for two years. It will be the first time that St Helier Y.C. will have had a site at the Jersey Boat show and in addition we will be running the ever-popular Chausey Pursuit Race.

Tomorrow evening, we are having a BBQ at the Club for all the family starting from 1700hrs. The Chefs have put together a great menu for £16.95 (Children under 12 £5.50) and there are still some places available. If you would like to come and join us, please book direct with the bar on 01534 721307.

On Friday there will be a Rally Breakfast at St Aubins Fort from 9am. This has been extremely popular and is now fully subscribed. On Sunday 5th June we have the Round the Island Race, East about. The forecast at present is for a westerly F4 so it sounds like an ideal way to finish the weekends events. The Jersey Boat Show will be run this year from 10th to 12th June. For the first time we will have a stand where we will be promoting the Club. We will be delighted to see any of our members who venture down to the harbour.

There will also be a very exciting possibility of winning a once in a lifetime trip around Jersey on a world record breaking endurance speed boat. For further information please click here.

On Saturday 11th we are running the Chausey Pursuit Race. It will be the normal format but unfortunately with the Brexit restrictions after finishing the race at Chausey we will be going on to Granville for the night.

Arguably one of the highlights of the year will be over the weekend of 17th to 19th June when we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the evacuation of the British Troops from St Malo, all be it two years late due to Covid-19! We are extremely fortunate in having Mrs Irene Probstein coming over from the USA specially to join us for this event. She was a 9-year-old who with her mother and brother were fleeing from the Germans in 1940. She was brought over to Jersey onboard Callou, one of the flotilla of boats from the yacht club, and then travelled to England just before the occupation started. She later emigrated to the States and will now be travelling back to Jersey and St Malo for the first time since the war. We will have the usual race on Friday night to St Malo and will be joined by the Rally boats as we go through the lock, dressed overall on Saturday morning. Irene and her family will be travelling down, courtesy of Condor, on the Saturday to join us for a special BBQ lunch before returning to Jersey. On Sunday there will be the traditional race back to St Helier and the following day we will be having a special luncheon at the Club when Mrs Probstein will be unveiling a plaque and giving a short talk on her memories from 1940.

The following weekend will be the annual Inter Island Race. We are delighted to welcome Savills onboard as race sponsor. Participants in this year's Savills Inter-Island Yacht Race from Guernsey to Jersey will be able to rub shoulders with one of the sport's greats, multiple world record-breaking yachtsman and Jersey resident Alex Thomson who will be welcoming crews as they cross the finish line as well as presenting prizes to the winners at the Club.
