2024 Biscay Race & Rally Announcement

As many of you will be aware this will be the year for our biennial race to Biscay. We have listened to feed back from many of our members who have suggested that we may get more participants if people are able to get back to Jersey within a week. With this in mind we have made some fundamental changes to the programme which we hope will encourage more boats both racing and rally to join us.

The main event will be a race / rally to Brest starting on Saturday 27th July at 10.30 am. The race will be along the north Brittany coast, around the outside of Ushant then leave the Chaussee de Sein (west cardinal buoy) to port and finish just outside the entrance to Rade de Brest. This will result in a course of approximately 180nm. There will be various classes to include a class for IRC handicap yachts for the more serious competitors, a YTC class for those without an IRC handicap  and a multihull class.

For those on the rally, we assume that most boats will go direct to Brest possibly with a break along the north Brittany coast. This will be approximately 140nm.

The reception / prize giving will be on the Tuesday evening in Brest.

There will be three coastal races on the return. We are awaiting confirmation from the marinas but we are planning to stop on Wednesday in LAberwrach, Thursday in Roscoff and Friday in Treguier. This will require crew to log out in Roscoff and then by email to log back in and out at Treguier. The event will finish in Treguier so boats have the option of staying in France or returning to Jersey over the weekend. We are hoping that there will be some form of reception in Treguier on the Friday evening.

There will be the opportunity for the rally boats to join us at these ports on the return journey.

It would be most helpful and appreciated if those of you who are interested in this event could reply to this email and let us know the name and LOA of your vessel. Could you also give an indication of the probable number of crew and whether you will be racing or part of the rally. This will help us with numbers both for the reception in Brest and for booking the marinas.
