For seafarers and landlubbers alike, the sight of a multitude of boats against the beautiful backdrop of St Aubin’s Bay can be truly stunning. The most impressive sight, surely, is the Jersey Regatta fleet that can often see up to a hundred boats racing over this three day extravaganza.

The count-down is well underway and we are almost ready to press the ‘Go’ button. Proceedings commence with a welcoming reception and the distribution of Regatta shirts in St Helier YC on the Thursday evening. The racing programme opens at 10 a.m. Friday morning with a coastal race for the sportsboat and cruiser/racer classes. Saturday and Sunday will see these classes racing to the south of the Island whilst, for their part, the dayboat, dinghy, sport catamaran and windsurfer classes will stay within the confines of the Bay on all three days.

Once again, we are delighted to be holding the Spinlock IRC Channel Islands Regional Championships 2019 within the Regatta. This annual Royal Ocean Racing Club event is aimed at all IRC-rated cruiser/racers, both local and visiting. A big ‘thankyou’ to Spinlock (https://www.spinlock.co.uk/) for some great prizes!

A full programme, ashore, will provide sailors with plenty of opportunity to relax and recover from the rigours of the day and to exchange the whys and wherefores of their own and others’ tactics. Following Saturday’s party night at the Royal Channel Islands YC, when we’ll all be rocking to The Pioneers, the Regatta will be brought to a close on the Sunday evening with the presentation of trophies, place prizes, championship trophies and the Jersey Regatta Best-in-Class prizes. There is plenty in store!

We gratefully acknowledge the support of Jersey Marinas who will be providing complimentary berthing in La Collette Marina, pontoon D, as follows:

  • Visiting boats – from this coming Saturday through to Monday 9th September
  • Local boats – from Wednesday 4th September through to Monday 9th September

We are also most grateful to Condor Ferries for the provision of discounted fares for those entrants shipping their boats to the Island.

The detailed Regatta schedule will follow soon …. Watch this space!
