Commodore's January Newsletter
Published 09:55 on 4 Jan 2023
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I think that last year was a very successful one for the Club. It has been fantastic to have had a year free from restrictions due to Covid and we have managed to achieve a great deal.
At long last, we have finished the balustrade in the Chart Room and it is rewarding to see how much this is now being used. I am sure that you will all agree that it is so much better to see our magnificent trophies on display in the new trophy cabinet rather than tucked away in the Sail Bunker. The new windows and cladding have been finished but unfortunately the roofer has been delayed because of the foul weather at the end of the year however we are next in line to be completed. Although it is great to see the Club looking so good what pleases me most are the number of times members have told me what a great atmosphere there is when they go into the Club Room.
On the water I would like to congratulate MicMac on winning the Merry Gents Race and Abracadabra the Festive Fun Race with Knight Star judged as the best dressed yacht by our past Commodores. Your Sailing and Rally Committees have been hard at work completing next years programme and if you wish to do some forward planning then please take a look at our website calendar.
2022 was a great success for the Rallies and I am pleased to say that it has been expanded further for 2023. Following the success of the 2021 West Country Tour we will be repeating this in 2023 and we hope to attract even more entries. We are looking at having a White Sail class for those of you who prefer to take it more gently and hope to encourage our rally boats to join us whether sail or motor. If you do have any suggestions, please let me know as soon as possible as we are organising this at the moment. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your ideas.
On the social side we had a most successful event following the Festive Fun Race with well over 100 people in the club. I would like to thank Cath and her Social Committee and Nick once again for leading the Carols as well as Father Christmas for coming to the Club to give out over 30 presents to the youngsters. I also would like to thank Steve, Bruno, Alan and all the staff for the superb New Years Eve party. It was great to see the bar open on Christmas morning when about 70 members came down to wish one another a Merry Christmas. Looking ahead we have the Burns Night celebration on Saturday 21st January. There will be more information on this popular event soon so when this is available, please book early to avoid disappointment.
Looking further ahead our next AGM will be 19th April. Some of the present Executive Committee members will be standing down so we are looking for new members for the Executive Committee. Please give this some thought and if you feel that you have new ideas or would like to consider putting your name forward, please let Jason know in the Office and either Jeff or I can get back to you and we can have a chat about what it entails.
I would like to finish by thanking all the members of the Executive and the various subcommittees for the hard work that they have put into the running of the Club in 2022 and also to Jason and Sarah for keeping the Office running so smoothly.
May I once again wish you all a very Happy New Year.
