I always feel that once we are into March the worst of the winter is behind us and its time to start looking forward to the beginning of the season. With this in mind we have already had the first two races in the Spring Series, and we are very grateful to Seapower Marine who are sponsoring us this year. Congratulations to Abracadabra who are leading Class One, Super Q and Fahrenheit who are tied in Class Q and Foxhound and Dirty Harry tied in Class 3.

The entries for our West Country Tour in July are coming in very well with 19 on the list. There is still room for some more so please enter soon to reserve your spot.

Last Saturday we had a very useful talk by Andy Wilbroe from the RYA on the Racing Rules. He said at the end that we had broken his record for the most questions asked so its obvious that this was well overdue and hopefully we will be better behaved on the race course.

Also, on the water our first Rally which will be to St Malo and up the Rance over the Easter weekend has been advertised and I believe it is already full as we have been limited with numbers by berth availability. If you havent entered and wish to come, do let Jason know as I believe he will keep a waiting list in case some pull out.

On the social side, I would like to thank Jane Morel-Orchard who with the Social Committee organised a most enjoyable Wine Tasting Quiz last month. Going forward the Fitting Out Supper will be on Saturday 18th March with a St Patricks Day theme. If you would like to come, please ring Jason at the Office on 732229.

We also have a couple of RYA training sessions coming up this month with the VHF Radio Course on Saturday 18th and the RYA First Aid at Sea course on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 21st and 22nd. To reserve a space please contact the Office on 732229.

Each year the Jersey Clipper Bursary is offered to Islanders of any age who wish to fulfil their nautical ambition. The winner will receive £1,000 and the runner up £500. For example, this could be put towards the cost of a trip on a tall ship, go towards a training course or participating in a water sport competition or anything else which is marine based. Islanders can apply for the 2023 Jersey Clipper Bursary by outlining  their ambition in no more than 200 words in an email to philipjeune@gmail.com by the end of April.

Please remember that the AGM will be on Wednesday 19th April at the Club and if anyone wishes to put their name forward for the Executive committee, you must get your proposal form completed and returned to the Office at least 30 days before the meeting.
