David Langlois, past Commodore 2009/10 is planning to sail between the Falklands and South Georgia in September this year and undertake an expedition of wildlife viewing, ski touring and photography for a trip of a lifetime, expected to span 35 days. Skip Novak, who manages the 77ft expedition yacht, Amundsen, combines rugged expedition design with creature comforts and ease of handling will be the groups transport and accommodation for the duration of the voyage. No specific sailing experience is required as the yacht is fully crewed.

The tour will assemble in the Falklands and join the Expedition that will be led by Stephen Venables a renowned mountain man with extensive experience of South Georgia. The expedition will visit anchorages along the hundred miles long northeast coast, visiting historical sites and vast penguin colonies.

For experienced ski mountaineers, there is also the opportunity to attempt multiple ski tours, including sections of the famous Shackleton Traverse. The expedition will return to the Falklands by October 3rd.

This will be David's second expedition with Pelagic Expeditions, the first being on the sistership Vinson of Antarctica from Chile to Cape town, via Cape Horn and Tristan da Cuna in April 2024. That trip included Celestial Navigation course, but David said he wont be getting rid of the GPS just yet!

Asked why this voyage had appeal, David said that "he had first wanted to undertake this expedition before Covid, as it combined both his love of sailing and skiing and visiting the last resting place of Sir Ernest Shackleton, a hero of his time and an extraordinary explorer and leader of men. This will be a personal challenge for me and voyage of discovery that I am very much looking forward to"

This is a rare opportunity to experience and get to know a unique and wild landscape that is South Georgia. There are currently spaces available and further details may be obtained from the Pelagic Expeditions web site:
