Proposal to Refurbish Clubhouse Fire Escapes
The Executive Committee has agreed a proposal of the House Committee to refurbish the clubhouses fire escapes. Whilst they remain functional and safe to use, they have become very rusty over the years since they were last treated and require a full overhaul.
The plan for the main fire escape outside the kitchens will be dismantled and taken to a workshop for shot blasting, repairing and re-painting, before being re-installed. Its appearance will be enhanced and improved in the process. Whilst this work is being done, a temporary scaffold fire escape will be erected, to allow continued operation of the restaurant and access to the flat.
We have considered several alternatives over the last few years and are now satisfied that this represents the most cost-effective long-term solution. The spiral fire escape from the Chart room to the balcony will however be re-painted in situ.
Based on the estimates obtained the budget for this work is expected to be no more than £30,000. We are in the process of considering three quotes and we expect to make a decision on our preferred supplier shortly.
This notice to Members of proposed capital expenditure is posted in accordance with paragraph 8 (i) of the Clubs constitution. Should Members require any further information please contact Chairman of the House Committee, Bob de la Haye.
