Happy New Year! Lets hope that this season will be able to proceed as planned and without interference from either Brexit or Covid.

Our 2022 racing season starts with the spring series on the 20th February and it would be great to see a healthy turn out even if it is likely to be a bit nippy. Please be aware that this year you will need to enter for each race in a series and that the cut-off day will be the Thursday preceding the actual race.

The racing programme is available on the club website by navigating through the racing/yacht racing tabs. As I write it is not yet published in the main calendar but will no doubt appear there soon. Printed copies are now available to collect from the club.

Race Officer Duties. The duty allocation (by boat)  is viewable on the race programme; so please check soon to discover which date/event you have been allocated. We have tried to ensure that the duties dont clash with races in which skippers might wish to compete. However, if you are unavailable for your allocated duty for whatever reason the policy is that you are responsible for finding a suitably competent replacement and then advise the committee of the change. As a courtesy we will remind the race officer of the specific duty obligation in the 7 to 10 days prior but please check the list in the next few weeks to avoid surprises!

Race Officer Training Please let the office know if you would like some additional training regarding race officer duties /decision-making/ course selection and depending on the response, we may organise an informal training session early in the season.

IRC Racing  We are aiming to encourage greater participation in IRC racing, particularly in class two. The club runs a scheme whereby IRC certificates can be obtained at a discount, so contact James Kent, our IRC representative, at james.kent62@gmail.com.  He will explain the process in addition to sharing the advantages of racing under this rule. Applications under this scheme are made collectively and so if interested, please contact James without delay.

Sail Measurement Should you need to have new or existing sails measured for your IRC certificate please contact James who will arrange this on an ad hoc basis.

Thanks... ...go to Ben Jones, Tom Vallois & Steve Manning who spent several somewhat uncomfortable hours assessing and then replacing the mooring chains on Vrachaire and Race Mark. Hopefully all our racing marks will now be secure during any winter storms.

Wine Prizes In order to support those who are enduring a "Dry January" (only three weeks to go), we have decided to wait until month end to distribute the wine prizes for the 2021 season. Winners will be advised by the club office in advance but do make it a date to come along at 18:30 hours on Saturday 29th to collect your just rewards. Why not make an evening of it by booking a table for dinner? Call 721307 to book.

We have an exciting season in prospect with a welcome return of both Concarneau (Biscay) and Inter-Island races, the latter sponsored for the first time by Savills. In addition, we have exciting plans to announce soon as part of our Evacuation commemorations.

I will continue the regular updates of news. Please contact me via the office if there's anything that you believe needs to be shared.

Fair winds,

Nick O'Hare
