Sailing News Update - March 2023

As we get started with the 2023 racing programme, a couple of points to note for skippers intending to race this year.

  1. Although the Seapower Spring series has started, there are still four races to be run and as this will be the maximum number of races to count for the overall series prizes, anyone who missed the first day's racing can still win the series if they turn out for the next two Sundays.
  2. Please enter online for each day's racing (excluding the Hettich series) and do not assume that entering for the first race is sufficient. This is a preference for inshore races but a requirement for coastal and offshore races.
  3. This year we re-introduce our evening series, kindly sponsored by Hettich. This series is open only to IRC boats so an IRC certificate will be required. There is a club scheme available to our members which reduces the cost and this is available if the boat has not previously had an IRC certificate or has recently changed ownership.  Please contact James Kent at james.kent62@gmail.com as soon as possible if you are interested.
  4. Following the adoption of the RYA's YTC rating system, we have decided to use this system for all non-IRC races for this year. Obtaining a certificate is straightforward and there is no cost. Therefore we ask that all skippers apply for this certificate as soon as possible so that disappointment can be avoided in the future.

As I write, there's a lovely little weather window on Sunday morning so I encourage as many as possible to dust off their oilies and come out to play. (0830 start)

Fair Winds,

Nick OHare
