Keen sailors can get behind the helm and take to the waves for the annual Inter-Island Yacht Race between Jersey and Guernsey.

The event remains one of the premier sailing competitions in the Channel Islands and will be held on Saturday, 22nd June.

The race which will follow a course starting in Guernsey and finishing in Jersey is sponsored by estate agents Savills for a third successive year.

Organised by St Helier Yacht Club and Guernsey Yacht Club, the event has been a popular fixture on the sailing calendar since 1964 with entries for 2024s contest now open.

More than 50 yachts of all types and sizes took part in 2023, with Jerseys Rhys Perkins and his crew on Abracadabra winning first place honours. Crews from Jersey also won the coveted Sir James Knott Trophy, which is awarded to the island with the highest finishing positions.

Jeff Speller, Commodore of St Helier Yacht Club, said: Last years event was a big success bringing people together for a day of friendly competition and celebrating everything that is so special about our two wonderful islands.

We are looking forward to this years event with even greater enthusiasm and working with our colleagues at Guernsey Yacht Club and Savills to ensure a great spectacle and memorable challenge.

Last year was hugely enjoyable and despite light winds making for some tricky conditions everyone returned in good time. Entries for this year are now open, so wed encourage anyone who would like to enter a crew to sign up as soon as possible.

Martin Priest, Commodore of Guernsey Yacht Club, added: As the largest race in our calendar this event is enthusiastically supported by a complete cross section of the sailing community, with entries and prizes for young sailors and family groups as well as the more serious racing teams. Such a large and diverse number of participants only serves to enhance the tremendous spirit of friendly inter-island rivalry which exists in sailing, as it does with most local sports.

Geri OBrien, head of office at Savills Jersey, continued: The Inter-Island Yacht Race epitomises everything that is so great about our two islands and theres always a wonderful atmosphere. Were delighted to be involved once again.
