August as usual has been a relatively quiet month for the Club. The main event was the Race / Rally to Carteret over the bank holiday weekend. This was a very successful Rally and particular thanks to Debs Hutchings, Chris Parlett and all the Rally Committee for organising it. I would also like to thank Barneville-Carteret Yacht Club and the municipality for making us so welcome. They provided us with complementary punch and the use of their barbeques etc. We are looking forward to having them back with us this coming weekend. Unfortunately for various reasons, the number of race boats was reduced but those who took part had a most exciting race back yesterday with a very brisk N.E. wind. Congratulations to Lady Penelope for winning overall.

As those of you who have been down to the Club recently will have seen, the new windows have been installed and are looking great. We are now waiting for the cladding to be fitted which is why the scaffolding is still in place.

Dont forget that the Air Display is taking place on Thursday 8th of September and the Club is a great place to watch it. The Chefs are putting on a special three course menu which can be booked with the bar on 721307.

The 27th of September is an important date in our Calendar as it was on this day in 1952 that our Defaced Red Ensign was first hoisted on the mast outside the Club. This privilege was granted by the Admiralty in recognition of the help given by our members in the evacuation of the Allied troops from St Malo in June 1940 as part of Operation Ariel.  As far as we know we are the only club in the world which has been granted this privilege as a Battle Honour.

As this will be the 70th anniversary we are looking to have a special celebration. We are planning to have a re-enactment of the hoisting of the Ensign at 1800hrs followed by a meal in the Club along with the presentation of the Warrants to those who require a new Warrant this year or to those who have applied for a Warrant for the first time this year. The meal will be £25 a head and will include a complimentary drink on arrival. Please book with the Office on 732229 as soon as possible as numbers will have to be restricted.
Further important dates for your diary are September 16th to 18th. This will be the last of the Offshore Races to Granville and will coincide with the final Rally of the year also to Granville. Further details about this event will be sent out by the Rally Committee.

Looking further ahead the laying up supper will be on Saturday 29th October and our Clubs Annual Dinner will be on Saturday 19th November at St Brelades Bay Hotel. Last year this was a great success, and some were disappointed as we were fully booked. We are emphasising that this is our Annual Dinner for all members so please save this date and there will be more information in the near future.

I know that our Chefs are preparing a special Christmas festive menu so if you are looking at organising a Christmas Party or want to come for a festive meal please consider the club for a venue.
