APPLY NOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE YOUR NAUTICAL DREAM COME TRUE

Applicants of all ages are invited to apply for the 2022 Jersey Clipper Bursary a £1,000 cash award aimed at furthering maritime endeavour.

The bursary is designed to assist an Islander of any age to achieve a particular nautical ambition. This could, for example, be a trip on a tall ship, attending a training course, participating in a watersports competition or competing in an ocean race anything with a maritime theme.
The annual award, a legacy from the three Jersey campaigns in the Clipper Round-the-World Race, was established 15 years ago through the generosity of Dandara, Les Pas Holdings and UBS. Further funding has recently been provided by UBS, enabling the trustees to give a main bursary of £1,000 and a runners-up award of £500.

The successful applicant will follow in the wake of the most recent winners, Steve Hayes and Pete Wright, who are competing in the forthcoming Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a 3,000-mile rowing race from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean.

Receiving the 2021 Jersey Clipper Bursary stood out as a particular highlight for us as it was clear that the magnitude of our challenge was being recognized and supported by the local community, said Steve, the general manager at the Somerville Hotel. With so much equipment required for our event, the bursary will be funding our essential, but hopefully not needed, liferaft.

In addition, the Jersey Clipper Bursary trustees presented a 2021 runners-up award of £500 to another duo, young sibling sailors Juliette and Russell Walton, who used the funding to help transport their catamaran and equipment to Spain to compete in the European Hobie Championships in September.

We faced some really tough competition but managed to finish fourth overall, which we were really pleased with, said Juliette. We couldnt have done it without the help of the Clipper Bursary.

The deadline for submitting written applications for this years Jersey Clipper Bursary is the end of April 2022. They should be no more than 200 words in length and should be emailed to philipjeune@gmail.com.
